“I have come to explain to you the ways in which the virtue of obedience becomes an advantageous tool in the hands of some in authority. Indeed, authority is misused when obedience becomes a means of control. Obedience to any authority needs to be encouraged through the virtue of love and practiced, not out of fear of reprisal, but with a heart of love. False obedience is one that is practiced without love in the heart, but only regarding the source of the order given. This type of obedience is empty–void of merit–as is any virtue practiced without love.”

“The gavel of much authority comes down in the name of obedience, often stifling the spirit and attempting to squelch many good works. I do not respect such attempts at control. I invite each one, then, to consider the outcome of the practice of obedience in the present moment.”
