Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared in Mexico as the pregnant Mother of God to Saint Juan Diego, a Chicemeca Indian, on December 9, 10 and 12, 1531. She left a Miraculous Image of her appearance on his cactus fiber cloak, or "tilma", which still exists today for all to see in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. |

St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231)
A Portuguese saint, born in Lisbon in 1195. From the time of his death up to the present day, countless miracles have occurred through St. Anthony's intercession, so that he is known as the Wonder-Worker. On January 16, 1946, Pope Pius XII, declared St. Anthony a Doctor of the Church. He is patron saint of Lisbon and of preachers of the gospels. He is also often invoked as the saint of lost causes and lost articles. |

Bishop Ignatius F. Horstmann was a Student in late 1850's at the Filbert Street location, before entering the diocesan Seminary. As a priest, he was a professor in the seminary and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In this much later photograph, he is shown as the Bishop of Cleveland, a post he held from 1892 until his death in 1908. |
